The Moon Becomes You
They are usually found in and near deciduous woodlands, where their larval food plants occur. In our depiction the host tree is the shagbark hickory ( Carya ovata ) a member of the walnut family. The adults have a short lifespan of only one week, so observing them is a rare occurrence.
Luna Moth
These nearctic Actius Luna are in the family Saturniidae. Like most moths they are nocturnal, primarily active at night and are named after the Greek God of the moon. They are usually found in and near deciduous woodlands, where their larval food plants occur. In my depiction, the host tree is the shagbark hickory ( Carya ovata ) a member of the walnut family. The adults have a short lifespan of only one week, so by necessity they are purposely moonstruck.
